Vintage Suitcase Repurposed to Store Children’s Books

This I like.  No, actually I love this idea for many reasons.  It has everything I like in a DIY book storage project.  It adds a unique, eye-catching design element to the room and it’s relatively easy and inexpensive to complete.

To create your own vintage suitcase to display your children’s books simply follow these steps:

1) Purchase a wooden vintage suitcase.  I think wooden is the best idea because then you always have the option to paint it if necessary.  Vintage suitcases can be found at garage sales and thrift stores, however I find it just easiest to go online.  Sure you might pay a bit more – but sometimes saving time is of more importance to me!

2)  Pick out a cute fabric or paper to be used to line the inside of the suitcase.  For me, this always a trip to Hobby Lobby!  You’ll also need mod podge to attach the fabric or paper, which is easily found at any craft store and even at WalMart.  This product is amazing because it drys quickly and clear.

3)  Optional:  Embellish your suitcase with ribbon and you are done!  Now add your favorite children’s books and you have one-of-a-kind storage solution for your child’s reading space.
